Number of damage and destruction incidents in pension reform protests in France 2023
In January 2023, an important movement of protests against the pension reform carried out by Emmanuel Macron's government started in France. The protests became more violent following March 16, when Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne decided to make use of the 49.3 article of the Constitution, allowing to engage the government's responsibility and adopt the reform without facing the Parliament's vote. Indeed, due to protests between January 19 and May 3, 99 fires destroyed vehicles, 156 fires affected buildings, and around 3,600 street fires were started.
