Trade balance of clean tech in the U.S. 2021, by product
The U.S. was a net importer of clean energy technologies in 2021, with an average trade balance of -16 percent across key technologies. Solar PV had the highest share of imports for meeting domestic demand, at roughly -65 percent. Meanwhile, the U.S. was a net exporter of heat pumps, as well as electric vehicles.
