Cumulative CO₂ emissions in India 1858-2022
India has produced approximately 60 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide (GtCO₂) from fossil fuels and industry since 1858. India's cumulative emissions reached 11 GtCO₂ in 1990, and have increased five-fold since then, owing to economic growth and the increased consumption of fossil fuels. The rapid rise in emissions means India is now the seventh-biggest carbon polluter in history.
