At the time of the Japanese House of Representatives general election in 2017, there were around 54.9 million female and 51.3 million male eligible voters. The voting rate was about 53 percent for female voters and 54 percent for male voters. The House of Representatives is the lower house of the Japanese parliament. Its members are newly elected in general elections every four years unless the cabinet dissolves the house earlier.
