Co-occurrence of suicide and substance use among U.S. veterans in 2020
In 2020, thoughts of suicide were more frequent among U.S. veterans with a substance use disorder. Almost 18 percent of veterans over the age of 18 with a substance use disorder reported having serious thoughts of suicide in the past year. The statistic illustrates the percentage of U.S. veterans aged 18 years and over who reported suicidal thoughts, plans or attempts in the past year as of 2020, by substance use disorder status.
