This statistic shows the perceived number of hottest years on record out of the last 18 years in 2018, by country. During the survey, respondents were asked to estimate how many years out of the last 18 were the hottest on record worldwide. According to data from IPSOS, respondents in Spain estimated that 13 out of the last 18 years were the hottest on record worldwide. Out of the past 18 years, 17 have been the hottest on record.

Original question: The World Meteorological Organization collects annual global temperatures, to see whether they are rising or falling across the world. How many of the last 18 years have been the hottest for the world as a whole since they began collecting data in 1961?

Data has been weighted to reflect the profile of the population.
