This statistic shows the number of German citizens with a second citizenship living in Germany in 2022, by foreign citizenship held. That year, around 183,000 German citizens also had Italian citizenship.

Data originates from the 2019 Microcensus.
The 2011 census shows a markedly higher number of dual citizens. However, according to the source it can be assumed that the population registers are not always up-to-date, which leads to exaggerated numbers in the census. By comparison, in the microcensus, according to the source, respondents don't always state their additional foreign citizenship. Therefore, the correct number may lie between the microcensus and the census.
