Listening to music on the Internet without having to download it is settling in France: according to a survey conducted in 2017 reports that a quarter of French respondents used daily or almost daily online music streaming services, while only nine percent never used such services. Moreover, half of the French declared spending between one and five hours a week listening to music streams. The common media streaming platform YouTube was said to be the favored provider for music streaming among French users in 2018, followed by Deezer and Dailymotion.

The Digital Market Outlook by Statista estimated the sector of music streaming consumption to 294.5 million euros for 2018 and forecasted 305.5 for the year 2019, while music downloads represented 57.4 million euros in 2018.
