Share of patients by duration of stay in mental hospitals in Ghana 2020
According to data from the Accra and Ankaful psychiatric hospitals, most mentally ill patients spend less than a year in hospitals in Ghana. In 2020, this added up to 66 percent. Moreover, close to 30 percent of the patients stayed for 10 years or more in mental hospitals.
In 2021, more than 48.1 thousand cases of mental illness were registered in facilities under the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG).
