Health insurance status of Americans by Medicaid expansion status 2013-2021
In 2021, 18 percent of Americans in Medicaid non-expansion states were uninsured, this was twice the share of uninsured people in Medicaid expansion states. Individual-market health insurance coverage was higher among Americans in non-expansion states. In general, health insurance coverage was higher among Americans residing in Medicaid expansion states compared to non-expansion states between 2013 and 2021.
