Freedom of expression score in Zambia 2000-2022
In 2022, Zambia achieved a score of 72 in the Global Expression Report (GxR), which is a drastic improvement from 41 points in the previous year. This was after the current President Hichilema-Mike Mposha defeated his main rival, former President Edgar Lungu, with over a million votes. GxR ranks countries based on the openness of the society, with a higher score being given to countries with more freedom of expression.
