Leading causes of death in the Dominican Republic 2019, by mortality rate
The leading cause of death in the Dominican Republic in 2019 was ischaemic heart disease. In that year, roughly 140 people per 100,000 died because of this heart condition. During that period, strokes and road injuries were also significant causes of death in the Caribbean country, with estimated mortality rates of 73.7 and 64.8 deaths per 100,000 people, respectively.
