Opinions on sources of support for extremist groups in Mozambique 2021
Around 30 percent of respondents in Mozambique attributed armed attacks in Cabo Delgado province to Islamist groups. Other 24 percent believed local people were involved in supporting extremist groups, while 21 percent cited political parties as source of support for the violent extremism. Mozambique has seen the deterioration of an ongoing conflict in the northern province Cabo Delgado. Non-state armed groups are accused of perpetrating extreme violent attacks, including arbitrary killings and detentions, human trafficking, and kidnapping.
