People in European countries searching for health information online, by age group
The European questionnaire on Information and Communication Technologies Data reveals that there exists a disparity between the internet usage of people of different age groups. This disparity although present in most countries, differs widely in its severity.
In 2020, 54 percent of internet users in the European Union (EU-27) between 16 and 24 responded that they used the internet to search for health information online. Scandinavian countries like Norway, Finland, and Denmark are among the countries with the highest share of 16 to 24 year olds that search for health information online. Spain and the Netherlands had a high share of 35 to 44 year olds using the internet for that purpose. The least likely across most European countries to inform themselves about health issues were the group of 55 to 64 year olds, especially low where the shares in Portugal and Belgium.
