Leading African universities 2021
As of 2021, the South African University of Cape Town was considered the leading university in Africa on the basis of its academic research and overall reputation. The institution achieved a score of 69.4, on a scale from 0 to100. With student enrollment reaching 21,647, the University of Cape Town placed 103rd in the global university ranking. Moreover, four other universities in South Africa followed as second to fifth leading universities in the region, namely University of Witwatersrand, Stellenbosch University, University of KwaZulu Natal, and University of Johannesburg. These institutions registered scores between 54.7 and 62.8. In the global ranking, the highest-performing school earns an overall score of 100.
