Food trade balance in Tunisia 2008-2021
Tunisia recorded a food trade deficit of around 1.9 billion Tunisian dinars (681 million U.S. dollars) in 2021, the sharpest deficit registered since 2008. A deficit in food trade means that the country relies on food imports and that the local production cannot satisfy the internal demand. Tunisia, along with other countries in North Africa, suffers from high levels of food insecurity.
