Number of mobile connections in Ghana 2017-2024
As of January 2024, Ghana registered approximately 39 million mobile connections, down from around 44 million in the same month of the previous year. Mobile connections correspond to 113.1 percent of Ghana's population, as one person can use multiple networks simultaneously. Generally, almost every household in Ghana owns a mobile telephone.
Mobile phone subscription is on the rise
As of 2021, there were nearly 40.5 million mobile cellular subscriptions in Ghana, transcribing to over 119 subscribers per 100 households. MTN has dominated the mobile connection market in the country by far, followed by the tight competitors, Vodafone and Tigo.
Mobile phones are often used to browse the web
The use of mobile phones is widespread among Ghanaians, whether for accessing the internet or making calls. As of July 2022, mobile phones generated more than 72 percent of the web traffic in the country. For users, android is the most preferred operating system. On average, one pays about 0.66 U.S. dollars to obtain one gigabyte of mobile data in Ghana.
