CO2 emission reduction from the electrification of rubber-tired gantry cranes 2017
Rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes are widely used in container stacking operations in ports around the world. To reduce ports' environmental footprint, an increasing share of RTG cranes are being electrified. Compared to a fleet of five diesel-electric cranes with an average consumption of 13 liters per hour, switching to grid-powered cranes would lead to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of nearly 870,000 kilograms carbon dioxide equivalent per year.
