In 2020, in a survey on phone use while driving in Australia, 28.1 percent of respondents indicated that a fine of 1,000 Australian dollars or more would be an effective deterrent for texting while driving. However, more than a quarter of the respondents felt that no deterrent measure would stop them from texting while driving.
