E-commerce loss due to the Facebook outage in Brazil 2021
The blackout experienced by Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp services on October 4, 2021 revealed how dependent small and medium enterprises have become to conduct their business on these online platforms. In Brazil, the e-commerce revenue lost during the six hours outage was estimated at 6.6 million Brazilian reals. This represents around two percent of the average daily e-commerce revenue generated in the Brazilian market.
