Leading Indian cities in terms of air pollution 2018
As on November 8, 2018, the city of Faridabad was the leading city across India in terms of air pollution, with a PM 2.5 concentration of almost 440 micrograms per cubic meters.
The measurement was taken just a day after the festival of Diwali. Firecrackers are commonly associated with the festival and are presumed to be a major contributor to air pollution at the time of the festival. The government however, has set strict norms for the noise and emissions related to the firecrackers and has allowed 'safe and green' crackers to be sold through licensed traders.
