The rates of individual annual consumption of spirits in Russia reached a historical minimum in 1987 at roughly two liters per person, after which consumption rates quickly escalated in the following years. The highest consumption level was reached in 1995, when Russians consumed about nine liters of pure alcohol in spirits on average. Since then, spirits intake has been decreasing, measuring at 3.16 liters per year in 2019.
